The SANDVIK COROMANT 5740886 is a carbide turning insert designed for metal cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Identified by ANSI code RCMT32.5 and ISO code RCMT097300, this insert features a round shape with a 0.3750-inch inscribed circle and a neutral hand orientation. The coating system consists of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN applied via an MTCVD process, targeting high wear resistance and toughness. It belongs to the CoroTurn 107 series and is held in place by a screw-type clamping method. Machinists and turning specialists install this insert for roughing and medium machining passes on stainless steel components.
This insert is engineered primarily for stainless steel (ISO material group M) applications, where a combination of wear resistance and toughness is required. The M0 chip breaker geometry supports both roughing and medium machining operations, making it well suited for aggressive material removal as well as semi-finish passes on austenitic and other stainless steel grades. The positive side clearance and 7-degree relief angle reduce cutting forces and heat buildup at the workpiece interface. Typical installations include external turning and profiling operations on production turning equipment in industrial and manufacturing environments.
Designed for use in CoroTurn 107 series screw-clamp toolholders accepting RCMT-style round inserts with a 0.3750-inch inscribed circle. Consult toolholder documentation to confirm seat and clamping screw compatibility before installation.
This insert is installed and replaced by machinists or tooling technicians on CNC lathes or manual turning centers. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key for the clamping screw and ensure the insert seat and screw threads are clean and free of chips before seating the new insert. Index to a fresh cutting edge or replace the insert when surface finish or tool life targets are no longer met.
