The SANDVIK COROMANT 5740656 is a round solid carbide turning insert designed for use in CNC and manual turning operations on steel and stainless steel workpieces. It carries an ISO designation of RCMT 09 T3 00 235 and belongs to the CoroTurn 107 series. The insert features a CVD-applied TiCN and TiN coating over a carbide substrate, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted cuts. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 5/32-inch thickness, and a 7-degree relief angle, this insert is suited for profiling and finishing passes where a full-radius geometry is required. It is held in place by a screw and is classified with a tolerance code of M and a clearance code of C.
This insert is used in external turning applications on CNC lathes and turning centers in production machining environments. Its primary material designation is P (steel), with a secondary designation of M (stainless steel), making it suitable for shops that run mixed-material jobs. The neutral hand orientation means it can be used in standard right-hand toolholders compatible with the RCMT insert style. The CoroTurn 107 series is commonly deployed in light to medium roughing and finishing passes. Each insert provides 4 cutting edges, improving cost-per-edge efficiency. Professional machinists, CNC operators, and toolroom technicians are the typical installers.
Designed for use with CoroTurn 107 series toolholders accepting RCMT-style round inserts with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and screw-on clamping. Suitable for steel (ISO P) and stainless steel (ISO M) workpiece materials.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC operators or machinists. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the pocket and torque the clamping screw using the appropriate Torx or hex key supplied by the toolholder manufacturer. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before securing the new insert to ensure proper seating and edge engagement.
