The SANDVIK COROMANT 5740614 is a round, solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC and manual lathe applications. Manufactured to the RCMT insert style with a neutral hand orientation, this insert carries the H13A uncoated carbide grade and features a 0.5 inch inscribed circle diameter with a thickness of 0.1875 inches. The SM chip breaker geometry is engineered for controlled chip evacuation during medium to finishing cuts. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert as part of the CoroTurn 107 tooling system. With four usable cutting edges per insert, it delivers reliable tool life in demanding turning operations on difficult-to-machine materials.
This insert is intended for turning stainless steel as its primary workpiece material, with secondary application on superalloys and titanium. The CoroTurn 107 series is typically deployed in both roughing and finishing operations where insert rigidity and edge stability are priorities. The round insert shape and RCMT geometry make it suitable for profiling passes, continuous cuts, and contour turning on CNC lathes in job shop and production environments. Machinists working with ISO material group M and S materials will find the H13A uncoated grade appropriate where coated grades may cause built-up edge or thermal cracking.
Designed for use with SANDVIK COROMANT CoroTurn 107 series toolholders. ISO insert code RCMT 12 04 00-SM H13A. Compatible toolholders accept a 0.1732 inch hole diameter screw-lock insert mount. Primary workpiece material classification is ISO M (stainless steel); secondary classifications are ISO S (superalloys and titanium).
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Use the designated Torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to torque the clamping screw — do not overtighten or undertighten, as either condition can cause insert movement or fracture during cutting. Inspect the insert pocket and locating surfaces for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Always verify insert orientation and confirm the correct grade and geometry before resuming cutting operations.
