The SANDVIK COROMANT 5740595 is a round solid carbide turning insert in the CoroTurn 107 series, designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the ISO designation RCMT 12 04 00-M0 235 and manufactured to grade 235, this insert features a CVD-applied TiCN plus TiN dual-layer coating that provides wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted cuts. The insert shape code is R, indicating a full-radius round profile, and the M0 chip breaker geometry is optimized for medium-duty turning. It is installed by licensed machinists and tooling specialists working in precision machining environments.
This insert is suited for turning steel as its primary workpiece material and stainless steel as its secondary workpiece material. The neutral hand orientation and screw-held mounting method make it adaptable to a wide range of CoroTurn 107-compatible toolholders used in both production and jobshop settings. With four usable cutting edges per insert and a full-radius profile, it delivers consistent surface finishes on cylindrical and profiled workpieces. It is applicable in general turning applications across residential and commercial machine shops and industrial production lines.
Designed for use with CoroTurn 107 series toolholders accepting RCMT-style round inserts with a 0.5 inch inscribed circle. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO code P); secondary workpiece material is stainless steel (ISO code M). ISO code RCMT 12 04 00-M0 235 can be used for direct toolholder and replacement cross-reference.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all motion is locked out before indexing or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key for the clamping screw and seat the insert fully against the pocket locating surfaces before tightening. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's recommended seating procedure; do not overtighten the clamping screw, as this can fracture the carbide insert or damage the pocket.
