The SANDVIK COROMANT 5740257 is an indexable square-shoulder face mill designed for precision shoulder milling operations in metal cutting applications. Built on the CoroMill 390 platform, this cutter accepts seven R390-18.. style inserts secured by clamp and screw, delivering a 90-degree lead angle with positive rake geometry for clean, efficient chip formation. The cutter measures 4 inches in maximum cutting diameter with a maximum depth of cut of 15.4 mm (0.606 inches) and stands 50 mm (1.969 inches) tall overall. The steel body features a 1-1/2 inch arbor hole and a close pitch insert arrangement, making it well suited to high-feed roughing and semi-finishing on ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
This face mill is used in CNC machining centers and manual milling machines in industrial manufacturing environments, including job shops, aerospace fabrication, and general metalworking. The right-hand cutting direction and close-pitch, 7-insert configuration support aggressive material removal rates in both vertical and horizontal setups. Coolant-through capability is not available on this cutter body, so external flood coolant is the standard approach. Licensed machinists and tooling specialists typically select this cutter for shoulder milling, face milling, and ramping operations where 90-degree walls and flat floors are required.
Compatible with R390-18.. series indexable inserts as specified by the manufacturer. Designed for use on CNC and manual milling machines equipped with a 1-1/2 inch arbor.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the spindle before mounting or removing the cutter body. Confirm arbor and keyway dimensions match before seating the cutter, and torque all fasteners per the machine tool manufacturer specifications. Index or replace worn inserts before returning the tool to service to maintain dimensional accuracy and prevent damage to the cutter body.
