The SANDVIK COROMANT 5740181 is an indexable square-shoulder end mill built on the CoroMill 390 platform. It carries three R390-11 series inserts secured by screw clamping and is designed for 90-degree shoulder milling operations in steel construction. The body features a Weldon Flat shank measuring 1.25 inches in diameter with a shank length of 2.401 inches. Overall length is 3.751 inches. Maximum depth of cut reaches 10.01 mm (0.394 inches), and the tool supports a maximum spindle speed of 31,200 RPM. Through-coolant capability delivers cutting fluid directly to the insert edges for improved chip evacuation and tool life in demanding cuts.
This end mill is suited for face milling, shoulder milling, and ramping operations in CNC machining centers. The 90-degree lead angle produces true square shoulders, making it appropriate for step milling, slot entry, and profiling work on ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces. The Weldon Flat shank is compatible with standard side-lock holders commonly found in production and job-shop environments. Three insert pockets allow for moderate material removal rates while maintaining balance and cutting stability. It is typically installed and run by CNC machinists and tool-and-die professionals in both prototype and production contexts.
Accepts R390-11 series inserts (three inserts per cutter). ISO designation RA390-032M32-11M. Designed for use in standard Weldon Flat side-lock toolholders with a 1.25-inch bore diameter.
Installation is performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool changer is in a safe state before mounting or removing the cutter body. Insert seats and screw threads should be cleaned and inspected before indexing inserts. Torque insert screws using the appropriate Torx key per the insert manufacturer guidelines and verify runout after assembly before beginning a cut.
