The SANDVIK COROMANT 5739117 is an indexable ball nose end mill from the CoroMill 216 series, designed for precision profiling, contouring, and 3D surface machining in steel and similar materials. Built with a steel toolholder body, it accepts RA216-1302 style inserts secured by screw clamping, providing repeatable positioning and secure insert retention under demanding cutting loads. The straight shank mounts directly into standard collet chucks or side-lock holders. With a 0.5 inch cutting diameter, a maximum depth of cut of 0.444 inches, and support for up to 21,000 RPM, this holder suits high-speed finishing and semi-finishing applications on CNC machining centers.
The 5739117 is intended for CNC milling operations in job shops, production machining environments, and tool rooms running steel workpieces. The CoroMill 216 series is a common platform in both light and medium-duty milling tasks where ball nose geometry is required for contoured surfaces, die cavities, and complex part profiles. Its 7.874 inch overall length allows reach into deeper pockets while the 1.2402 inch head length keeps the insert zone compact. Two ball nose inserts provide balanced cutting action suitable for both climb and conventional milling passes.
Compatible with RA216-1302 style inserts. Designed for use in the CoroMill 216 toolholder platform (RA216..Oxx series). Consult insert manufacturer documentation to confirm insert grade and geometry selection for specific workpiece materials and cutting parameters.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before inserting or removing the toolholder or changing inserts. Torque the insert clamping screw using the appropriate Torx or hex key as specified in the insert manufacturer documentation — do not over-tighten. Verify runout with a dial indicator after clamping and before initiating any cutting cycle.
