Product Description

The SANDVIK COROMANT 5739039 is a solid carbide ball nose milling insert in the RA216 series, designed for use in rotating milling cutters requiring precise corner radii and consistent edge performance. Manufactured to grade 1010 and coated with TiAlN via a PVD process, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability in demanding cutting applications. It carries a 1/4 inch corner radius, a thickness of 3/32 inches (0.0938 inches), and a length of approximately 0.4440 inches. The right-hand, single-sided insert features a positive rake geometry with a rounded cutting edge and M-style chip breaker. A licensed machinist or tooling technician installs and indexes this insert as part of a rotating tool assembly.

This insert is suited for milling cast iron and hard materials in both production and job-shop environments. The RA216-13 02 M-M 1010 designation matches the ANSI and ISO coding standards, making it straightforward to specify and cross-reference. With two cutting edges per insert and a maximum depth of cut of 0.4449 inches, it is well-suited for semi-finish and finish milling passes on ferrous and hardened workpieces. The positive rake and PVD TiAlN coating combine to manage heat and chip flow when cutting difficult materials.

Key Features

  • Solid carbide substrate, grade 1010, with PVD TiAlN coating for thermal and wear resistance
  • Ball nose profile with a 1/4 inch (6.35 mm) corner radius for contoured and profiling cuts
  • Positive rake geometry with rounded cutting edge style reduces cutting forces
  • M-style chip breaker promotes controlled chip evacuation in cast iron and hard material applications
  • Two cutting edges per insert; right-hand, single-sided design
  • Screw-retained insert holding method for secure, repeatable positioning in the cutter body

Compatibility

Designed for use with RA216 series cutter bodies. ANSI and ISO code RA216-13 02 M-M 1010 with insert size code 1302. Compatible cutter series: RA216.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Before indexing or replacing inserts, ensure the spindle is fully stopped, locked out, and the cutter body is secured in a vise or tool holder. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key as specified by the cutter body manufacturer for the insert clamping screw — do not over-tighten, as this can damage the insert seat or screw. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or wear before installing a new insert.
