The SANDVIK COROMANT 5736859 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Part of the T-Max Q-Cut series, it carries a CVD-applied TiCN/TiN coating over a grade 235 carbide substrate, providing strong wear resistance and thermal stability at elevated cutting speeds. The insert features a neutral hand orientation with a 0.187-inch (4.75 mm) cutting width, a 0.010-inch corner radius, and a 5G chip breaker geometry. It is sized for insert seat size 40 and is rated as a multi-use tool, making it suitable for repeated grooving passes across a range of workpiece materials.
This insert is intended for use by machinists and tooling technicians performing groove turning, parting-off, and face grooving on metal workpieces in both production and job-shop environments. The ISO code N151.2-A187-40-5G 235 identifies the insert within the standard T-Max Q-Cut toolholder system. The neutral rake angle of 7 degrees and the 5G chip breaker support stable chip control in materials ranging from steel to stainless alloys. Typical applications include OD grooving, shallow face grooves, and snap-ring groove machining on turned components.
Designed for use with SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max Q-Cut series toolholders and blades accepting insert seat size 40 and ISO style N151.2. Verify toolholder seat size and insert style before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine powered down and in a locked-out state per facility LOTO procedures. Seat the insert fully against the pocket locating surfaces and tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer-specified torque using the correct Torx or hex key — do not over-torque or substitute fasteners. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination can cause insert rocking and premature edge failure. Always confirm the correct insert orientation and cutting direction before resuming spindle operation.
