The SANDVIK COROMANT 5736817 is a solid carbide grooving insert engineered for precision parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the CoroCut 1-2 series standard, this insert features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, delivering strong wear resistance and thermal stability at elevated cutting speeds. The cutting width measures 6 mm (0.2362 inches) and the maximum depth of cut reaches 22.2 mm (0.874 inches), making it well-suited for medium-depth grooving passes. A 3 mm corner radius and positive rake geometry support smooth chip evacuation and reduced cutting forces. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert as a direct replacement component in compatible CoroCut toolholders.
This insert is designed for use in production turning environments where consistent groove geometry and surface finish are critical. It carries a neutral hand orientation, making it applicable to both OD grooving and parting-off operations on ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces. The RO chip breaker designation optimizes chip control across a depth-of-cut range starting at 20 mm and above. The J2 insert size and J seat designation must be matched to the correct CoroCut 1-2 toolholder to achieve proper seating and clamping. Typical applications include automotive component machining, hydraulic fittings, and general turned-part production.
Designed for use with SANDVIK COROMANT CoroCut 1-2 series toolholders accepting J-seat inserts at J2 insert size. ISO code reference: N123J2-0600-RO 1105. Verify toolholder seat designation before installation.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine spindle locked and all power isolated per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate Torx or insert-clamping key specified for the CoroCut 1-2 toolholder; do not use impact tools on insert clamping screws. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper clamping contact. Confirm the insert is fully seated and the clamp is torqued per the toolholder manufacturer's specification before resuming cutting operations.
