The SANDVIK COROMANT 5736674 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability in demanding cutting conditions. The insert carries a 0.25 inch (6.35 mm) cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 0.866 inch (22 mm), making it well suited for medium to deep grooving applications. It is sized as a J2 insert with a positive rake geometry and an RO chip breaker, and it belongs to the CoroCut 1-2 series. Machinists and CNC turning specialists install this insert in compatible CoroCut 1-2 toolholders during production and repair turning work.
This insert is used in CNC turning operations on a variety of workpiece materials where a 0.25 inch grooving width is required. The neutral hand orientation supports standard radial grooving setups. With a maximum depth of cut range starting above 0.30 inch and extending to 1.0 inch, it fits medium to deep groove profiles. The RO chip breaker geometry aids chip evacuation in continuous grooving passes. Typical environments include production turning shops, tool rooms, and maintenance machining cells working with steel, stainless, and similar materials.
Designed for use in SANDVIK COROMANT CoroCut 1-2 series toolholders that accept a J-seat insert. ISO code N123J2-0635-RO 1125 identifies the exact grade and geometry for toolholder matching.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. The machine spindle must be stopped and all motion arrested before changing inserts. Use the correct torx or clamp screw specified for the CoroCut 1-2 toolholder to secure the insert without over-torquing the clamping seat. Inspect the insert seat and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and repeatable tool-tip position.
