The SANDVIK COROMANT 5736401 is a solid carbide cutoff insert designed for parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It belongs to the CoroCut 3 series and carries manufacturer grade 1125 with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating that supports extended tool life in a range of workpiece materials. The insert features a 1.5 mm cutting width, a neutral lead angle, and a 7-degree relief angle. The CS chipbreaker geometry promotes controlled chip formation and evacuation, reducing the risk of chip packing during deep parting cuts. A clamp-style holding method secures the insert firmly in compatible CoroCut 3 toolholders.
This insert is suited for parting, grooving, and face grooving applications on small to medium-diameter workpieces in production turning environments. It is commonly installed in both manual and automated CNC lathe setups where consistent cut width and chip control are critical. The 6.40 mm maximum depth of cut allows it to handle a practical range of bar stock diameters. It is typically specified by toolroom supervisors, CNC machinists, and setup technicians working in precision machining, job shop, and high-volume production settings.
Designed for use with compatible CoroCut 3 series toolholders that accept insert style N123T3 with insert seat size T. Refer to the SANDVIK COROMANT CoroCut 3 toolholder selection guide to confirm holder compatibility before ordering.
Insert replacement and indexing should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician with the machine spindle stopped and all energy sources locked out per OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping seat for chips or debris before seating the new insert. Apply the manufacturer-recommended clamping torque using the appropriate torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder documentation. Verify insert seating and tool geometry before returning the machine to operation.
