The SANDVIK COROMANT 5735638 is a solid carbide cutoff insert designed for parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Cataloged as N123E1-0200-0002-CM 1125, this insert features a 2.00 mm cutting width, a neutral lead angle, and a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process. The CM chipbreaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation during cutoff operations. With a 7-degree relief angle and a 0.20 mm corner radius, the insert delivers consistent edge performance across a range of workpiece materials. It is installed by machinists and CNC operators using the CoroCut 1-2 clamping system.
This insert is suited for precision cutoff and grooving work in production turning environments, both job shop and high-volume manufacturing. The neutral hand designation makes it compatible with standard straight-feed parting applications. The 1125 grade with PVD TiAlN coating is well suited for steel, stainless steel, and other ferrous materials where wear resistance and edge integrity are priorities. Typical applications include component parting on bar-fed lathes and groove profiling on turned components where tight dimensional tolerances are required.
Designed for use with SANDVIK COROMANT CoroCut 1-2 series toolholders that accept insert seat size E with a clamp holding method. Refer to the manufacturer toolholder selection guide to confirm proper holder pairing before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine in a locked-out, de-energized state before any insert change. Seat the insert fully into the pocket and verify the clamp is properly torqued per the toolholder manufacturer specifications before resuming cutting. Inspect the insert seat for debris or wear that could affect seating and runout. Do not use a damaged or improperly seated insert, as this can result in insert breakage or dimensional error.
