Insert installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine in a fully stopped and locked-out state. Use the correct Torx or hex key driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the clamping screw — do not over-torque, as carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under excessive clamping force. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert, and confirm the insert is fully seated before resuming cutting operations. Handle carbide inserts with care; edges are sharp and the substrate is susceptible to fracture from impact.
