The SANDVIK COROMANT 5734046 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Part of the CoroCut 1-2 series, this left-hand insert features a 2 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 4 mm, making it well suited for tight-tolerance groove profiles in production turning environments. The TiAlN and AlCr2O3 PVD coating provides thermal resistance and wear protection during high-speed interrupted cuts. Grade 1115 is a CVD-coated carbide grade optimized for steel and stainless steel applications. Licensed machinists and CNC setup technicians are the primary installers of this insert type.
This insert is used in grooving operations on lathes equipped with CoroCut 1-2 compatible toolholders. It is applied in both high-volume production and job-shop environments where consistent groove width and wall perpendicularity are required. The GS chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation in shallow to medium-depth grooves. The 90-degree lead angle and neutral rake support stable entry into the workpiece and reduce lateral cutting forces. Applications include external ring grooves, undercuts, and parting cuts in steel and stainless steel components.
Designed for use with SANDVIK COROMANT CoroCut 1-2 series toolholders accepting HX seat size inserts. ISO code LG123H1-0200-0002-GS1115 identifies the exact holder and seat pairing required.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician following the toolholder manufacturer's torque and clamping specifications. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Inspect the insert seat and clamping screw for debris or wear before seating a new insert. Do not exceed the rated maximum depth of cut for this insert style, as overloading the cutting edge can cause sudden fracture.
