The SANDVIK COROMANT 5732704 is a DNMG432-MM turning insert from the T-Max P series, designed for precision external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured from solid carbide with a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN coating, this insert is optimized for cutting stainless steel (ISO material group M). The neutral hand orientation makes it suitable for straight turning and profiling applications. Key geometry specs include a 55-degree diamond insert shape, a 0.0313-inch corner radius, and a 0.5789-inch insert length. Four cutting edges per insert extend tool life and reduce per-edge cost. Qualified machinists and CNC operators install this insert as part of a standard indexable toolholder setup.
This insert is intended for use on stainless steel workpieces in production and job-shop environments, both in high-mix and high-volume turning operations. The MM chip breaker geometry is suited for moderate depth-of-cut finishing and semi-finishing passes where chip control on stringy, work-hardening stainless steel alloys is critical. The PVD coating process preserves edge sharpness and is particularly effective at lower cutting temperatures common in stainless steel machining. The T-Max P series is a well-established indexable turning platform used on lathes ranging from light-duty manual machines to high-speed CNC turning centers.
Designed for use in DNMG-style indexable turning toolholders that accept a 1/2-inch inscribed circle insert with clamp and pin retention. ISO designation DNMG 15 04 08-MM 2035 can be used to confirm toolholder seating and pocket compatibility. Intended for stainless steel (ISO M) primary workpiece material.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the lathe spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp screws specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten the clamping screw, as this can fracture the insert or damage the pocket. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before seating the new insert.
