The SANDVIK COROMANT 5731990 is a solid carbide turning insert with a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating applied via PVD process, designed for precision turning operations on hard materials. Carrying the ISO designation DNGA431S0330A in the 7015 grade, this insert features a 55-degree diamond shape, a neutral hand orientation, and a 0.0156-inch (1/64-inch) corner radius. It is engineered for use in the T-Max P series tooling system and suits CNC and manual turning applications where consistent edge performance and wear resistance on hardened workpieces are required. Machinists and tooling specialists in job shop, aerospace, automotive, and general manufacturing environments install this insert.
This insert is intended for turning hard materials, corresponding to ISO workpiece material code H. The DNGA insert style with a 0 degree relief angle (clearance code N, tolerance code G) is suited to rigid setups where controlled chip formation is critical. The chip breaker style A designation contributes to predictable chip evacuation during finishing and semi-finishing passes. It is applicable in both internal and external turning operations using compatible T-Max P series toolholders. The neutral hand designation makes it adaptable to a range of toolholder configurations without hand-specific limitations.
Designed for use with SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max P series toolholders that accept the DNGA insert style with a 0.2030-inch hole diameter mounting. ISO designation DNGA150404S01030A 7015 applies. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and clamping method before installation.
Installation of turning inserts is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing any insert. Ensure the toolholder pocket is clean and free of chips or debris before placing the insert, as contamination can affect seating accuracy and edge life. Use the appropriate torque driver for the clamp screw per the toolholder manufacturer specification — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide substrate.
