The SANDVIK COROMANT 5731728 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC lathe and turning center applications. Identified by the ISO code DNMA 15 04 08-KR 3210, this insert features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN engineered to deliver thermal resistance and extended tool life. The 55-degree diamond shape (Insert Shape Code D) provides a strong cutting geometry with a 0.5789-inch insert length and a 1/2-inch inscribed circle. A KR chip breaker geometry and 0 degree relief angle (Clearance Code N) make this insert well suited for stable, high-volume turning operations. The manufacturer grade is 3210.
This insert is optimized for turning cast iron workpieces, the primary workpiece material code K per ISO classification. It is used in T-Max P series toolholders and fits applications in both production shops and job shops where consistent surface finish and edge integrity on ferrous materials are required. The neutral hand orientation allows fitment in standard right-hand and some left-hand tool systems. The KR chip breaker geometry aids in chip control during medium to heavy depth-of-cut passes on cast iron components.
Designed for use with SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max P series toolholders accepting DNMA-style inserts with a 1/2-inch inscribed circle, Tolerance Code M, and Clearance Code N. Compatible with toolholder systems that use clamp and pin holding methods.
Turning inserts of this type are installed and replaced by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians following the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque and seating procedures. Power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping components for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Do not use a damaged or improperly seated insert, as insert failure can cause tool damage or workpiece rejection.
