The SANDVIK COROMANT 5731338 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DNMX432-WF geometry, part of the T-Max P series. It carries a dual-layer PVD coating of TiAlN and AlCr2O3, providing thermal resistance and wear protection during continuous and interrupted turning operations. The insert features a 55-degree diamond shape with a neutral hand orientation, a 1/32-inch corner radius, and a 1/2-inch inscribed circle. With four cutting edges and a WF chip breaker geometry, it delivers controlled chip formation across a broad range of cutting conditions. Machinists and CNC lathe operators use this insert for medium to finishing passes on steel and stainless steel workpieces.
This insert is suited for external and internal turning applications on CNC lathes and turning centers in both production and job-shop environments. The WF chip breaker targets light to medium depths of cut with maximum depth of cut reaching 0.5789 inches. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO code P), with secondary application on stainless steel (ISO code M). The insert is held using a clamp and pin method, consistent with standard T-Max P toolholders. ISO designation is DNMX 15 04 08-WF 1125.
Designed for use with T-Max P series toolholders accepting DNMX-style inserts with clamp and pin holding. ISO designation DNMX 15 04 08-WF 1125 governs toolholder compatibility. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and clamping method before installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Before indexing or replacing the insert, power down the machine spindle and confirm the turret is fully stopped. Use the appropriate torque wrench or screwdriver specified by the toolholder manufacturer for the clamping screw — do not overtighten the clamp pin, as this can fracture the carbide insert. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or debris before seating the new insert.
