The SANDVIK COROMANT 5731305 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DNMG432-MF geometry, grade 1105, designed for precision external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a PVD-applied TiAlN coating that delivers heat resistance and wear protection during medium to finish turning cuts. The 55-degree diamond shape (D) provides a sharp, stable cutting edge suited for profiling and contour work. With a 0.5789-inch cutting edge length, a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/32-inch corner radius, this insert is engineered for consistent dimensional accuracy and surface finish in production turning environments. It carries four usable cutting edges, reducing tooling cost per edge.
This insert is optimized for turning steel as its primary workpiece material and is also rated for stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. It belongs to the T-Max P series, which targets high-productivity turning in a range of steel and difficult-to-machine alloys. Typical applications include finish to medium turning passes on shaft components, flanges, and turned profiles in industrial manufacturing and precision machining shops. Do not mix insert grades or geometries within a toolholder pocket, as improper seating can cause insert breakage or workpiece damage.
