The SANDVIK COROMANT 5730989 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC turning applications. It carries the DCMT 11 T3 04-UM 2025 ISO designation and belongs to the CoroTurn 107 series. The insert features a multilayer TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN coating over a carbide substrate, providing thermal resistance and wear protection during continuous and interrupted cuts. At 0.442 inches in length with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle and a 1/64 inch corner radius, this insert is sized for light-to-medium turning passes. It delivers two cutting edges per insert, making efficient use of tooling cost per edge.
This insert is engineered primarily for machining stainless steel workpieces, consistent with the ISO M workpiece material code. The UM chip breaker geometry is suited for finishing and semi-finishing operations where chip control and surface finish are critical. The insert seats via screw clamping, standard on CoroTurn 107 toolholders. It is installed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians in production turning environments handling austenitic and other stainless steel grades.
Designed for use with CoroTurn 107 series screw-clamp toolholders that accept DCMT-style inserts. ISO code DCMT 11 T3 04-UM 2025 can be used to cross-reference compatible holder specifications. Confirm toolholder pocket geometry and insert seat clearance code C and tolerance code M compatibility before installation.
Insert installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and all power isolated. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or contamination before seating the insert, as debris under the insert will affect cutting geometry and can cause premature failure. Always index or replace the insert before cutting edge condition degrades to the point of workpiece damage.
