The SANDVIK COROMANT 5730961 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CoroTurn 107 series, designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a TiAlN and AlCr2O3 dual-layer PVD coating that supports elevated cutting speeds and extended tool life on ferrous and exotic workpiece materials. The insert features a 55-degree diamond shape (D), a neutral hand orientation, and a MF chip breaker geometry optimized for finishing and semi-finishing cuts. With two cutting edges per insert, this grade 1125 carbide provides consistent performance across a range of demanding applications.
This insert is suited for machining steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. It fits standard DCMT-style toolholders and is appropriate for finishing passes where tight tolerances and good surface finish are required. The screw-clamping holding method ensures secure seating in compatible toolholder pockets. Machinists and CNC operators working in job shops, production facilities, and aerospace or energy sector environments will find this insert well-suited for medium-to-light chip loads at higher surface footage.
Designed for use in DCMT-style screw-on toolholders compatible with the CoroTurn 107 series. Primary workpiece material is steel; secondary materials include stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. ISO designation DCMT 11 T3 04-MF 1125 governs toolholder pocket compatibility.
Insert replacement should be performed with the machine spindle stopped and all axis motion locked out per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Use the correct Torx or hex key to tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque — do not over-torque, as carbide inserts are brittle and will crack under excessive clamping load. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or wear before seating a new insert. Verify insert orientation and hand before resuming cutting operations.
