The SANDVIK COROMANT 5730938 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Conforming to ISO code DCMT 11 T3 04-MF 1105, it features a 55-degree diamond shape (D), a 7-degree relief angle (clearance code C), and a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process. The MF chip breaker geometry is engineered for medium to fine finishing cuts. With an inscribed circle of 0.3750 inches and a corner radius of 0.0156 inches (1/64 inch), this insert delivers controlled chip formation and consistent surface finish in steel and related alloy applications. It is held in place by a screw-lock (Torx or similar) insert seat.
This insert is suited for finish and semi-finish turning of steel as its primary workpiece material, with secondary compatibility across stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. It fits standard DCMT-style toolholders used in both CNC and manual turning operations. The CoroTurn 107 series is a common platform in production shops, job shops, and maintenance machining environments where tight tolerances and repeatable surface finish are required. Machinists and CNC programmers working with P- and M-class ISO material groups will find this insert appropriate for light-to-moderate depth-of-cut finishing passes.
Designed for use in DCMT-style screw-lock toolholders within the SANDVIK COROMANT CoroTurn 107 series. Compatible with ISO material groups P (steel), M (stainless steel), S (superalloy), and titanium workpiece materials as specified in the manufacturer data.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC toolroom technician. Before indexing or replacing the insert, ensure the machine spindle is stopped and the toolholder is removed or safely secured. Use the appropriate Torx or insert-clamping key to seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket before tightening the clamping screw. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris prior to installation to ensure accurate insert positioning and prevent premature edge failure.
