The SANDVIK COROMANT 5730744 is a DCMT-style turning insert from the CoroTurn 107 series, designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes. This solid carbide insert features a multilayer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which builds wear resistance and extends tool life in demanding cutting conditions. The 55-degree diamond shape (insert shape code D) provides a relatively sharp point angle suited to profiling and finishing passes. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 0.4263-inch insert length, and a 1/32-inch corner radius, this insert fits standard DCMT toolholders secured via screw clamping. It is rated for Manufacturer Grade 3210 and carries a neutral hand designation. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary users.
This insert is optimized for machining cast iron (ISO material code K) in applications where controlled chip formation is critical. Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine in a full stop, lockout/tagout state. Use the correct torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer when seating the clamping screw — do not overtighten. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Verify insert seating is fully flush before resuming cutting operations.
