The SANDVIK COROMANT 5730727 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert in the CoroTurn 107 series, designed for precision finishing operations on CNC and manual lathes. Catalogued under ANSI code DCMT21.50KF and ISO code DCMT070202KFH13A, this insert features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive side clearance geometry. The H13A carbide grade delivers high wear resistance suited to cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous alloys, and special or super alloys. The KF chip breaker is optimized for finishing cuts, producing controlled chip flow at light to moderate depths of cut up to 7.55 mm (0.2972 inches). Screw-style insert holding keeps the insert firmly seated during interrupted and continuous cuts.
This insert is intended for finishing passes in turning and light profiling applications on CNC lathes and turning centers. Primary workpiece material codes are P, K, N, and S, making it appropriate for steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals such as aluminum and copper alloys, and heat-resistant super alloys. The neutral hand orientation allows use on both OD turning and facing operations. Machinists and CNC operators in production, job-shop, and maintenance-repair environments commonly specify this insert when surface finish and dimensional accuracy are the priority over material removal rate.
Designed for use in CoroTurn 107 series screw-clamp toolholders that accept DCMT-style inserts with a 1/4-inch (6.35 mm) inscribed circle. Confirm toolholder pocket geometry and seat dimensions against the insert tolerance code M and clearance code C before installation.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a full stop, locked-out condition. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified seating torque — do not use standard shop hand tools that may over- or under-torque the fastener. Inspect the insert pocket and seat for chips, debris, or wear before seating a new insert, as contamination in the pocket directly affects surface finish and insert life. Always verify tool offset data after indexing to a new insert edge before resuming a cut.
