The SANDVIK COROMANT 5730640 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CoroTurn 107 series, designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a PVD-applied TiCN and TiN dual-layer coating on a grade 1525 carbide substrate, providing wear resistance suited for steel and stainless steel workpieces. The insert features a 55-degree diamond shape (DCMX style), a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 7-degree relief angle, and a wiper edge geometry. With a neutral hand orientation and WF chip breaker, it delivers controlled chip formation in light-to-medium finishing passes. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert as part of a screw-clamp toolholder system.
This insert is intended for precision turning of steel (ISO material code P) and stainless steel (ISO material code M) in both production and job-shop environments. The WF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing cuts where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are priorities. The insert conforms to ISO designation DCMX 11 T3 04-WF 1525 and fits toolholders designed for the CoroTurn 107 platform. The screw-clamp holding method ensures repeatable seating and minimal runout between index changes. Two cutting edges are available per insert.
Designed for use in CoroTurn 107 series screw-clamp toolholders that accept the DCMX insert style with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle. ISO designation DCMX 11 T3 04-WF 1525 governs holder compatibility. Primary workpiece materials are steel (P) and stainless steel (M).
Installation is performed by CNC machinists and toolroom technicians using the screw-clamp method specified for CoroTurn 107 toolholders. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is locked before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the clamping screw - do not overtighten. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert to maintain repeatable tool-nose position.
