The SANDVIK COROMANT 5730449 is a DCGT-style solid carbide turning insert from the CoroTurn 107 series, designed for precision turning of stainless steel and superalloys including titanium. The insert features a TiAlN and AlCr2O3 PVD coating for heat resistance and edge wear performance at elevated cutting temperatures. It carries a 55-degree diamond shape, a neutral hand orientation, and a UM chip breaker geometry suited for light to medium finishing passes. Insert length is 0.2894 inches, inscribed circle diameter is 0.25 inches, and corner radius is 0.0156 inches (1/64 inch). Licensed HVAC, machining, and tooling professionals specify this insert for tight-tolerance finishing operations on difficult-to-machine materials.
This insert is used in CNC turning centers and manual lathes equipped with CoroTurn 107-compatible toolholders that accept screw-clamped DCGT inserts. Primary workpiece material is stainless steel (ISO material code M), with secondary suitability for superalloys and titanium (ISO material code S). The UM chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing operations where controlled chip formation and surface finish consistency are critical. Designed for use with CoroTurn 107 series screw-clamp toolholders accepting DCGT-style inserts with a 0.25-inch (6.35 mm) inscribed circle. ISO designation is DCGT 07 02 04-UM 1115. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and insert seat dimensions against the manufacturer grade 1115 specification before use.
Insert installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the spindle at a complete stop and all machine motion locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key at the torque specified by the toolholder manufacturer for the screw-clamp pocket — do not over-torque, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before seating the new insert. Handle carbide inserts with care; edges are brittle and will chip if dropped or contacted with hard surfaces.
