The SANDVIK COROMANT 5730446 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CoroTurn 107 series, designed for precision external turning operations on lathes. This insert carries the ISO designation DCGT 11 T3 01-UM 1105 and features a 55-degree diamond shape with a neutral hand orientation. The TiAlN coating is applied via PVD process, providing thermal resistance and wear protection suited to steel and stainless steel machining. The UM chip breaker geometry controls chip flow at light-to-moderate depths of cut. Corner radius measures 0.1 mm, and the inscribed circle is 3/8 inch, making it appropriate for finish and semi-finish turning where tight tolerances and surface finish are priorities. Licensed machinists and CNC turning center operators are the primary installers.
This insert is primarily intended for turning steel workpieces and is rated for secondary use on stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. The CoroTurn 107 series is engineered for screw-clamped toolholders used in positive-rake external turning applications on CNC lathes in both production and job-shop environments. The 55-degree diamond insert shape provides good access to profiling passes and facing operations where clearance angles matter. The UM chip breaker is well-matched to finishing passes on steel components where chip control at low feed rates is critical.
Designed for use in CoroTurn 107 series screw-clamped toolholders accepting DCGT-style inserts with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO material code P); secondary rated workpiece materials include stainless steel, superalloy, and titanium (ISO codes M, P, and S).
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer's torque specifications for the clamping screw. Ensure the toolholder pocket and insert seat are clean and free of chips or debris before seating the insert. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts per shop safety protocols. Do not exceed the recommended depth-of-cut or feed-rate range for the 1105 grade and UM chip breaker as defined in the current SANDVIK COROMANT tooling catalog.
