The SANDVIK COROMANT 5730400 is a cermet, uncoated turning insert in the CoroTurn 107 series, designed for precision external turning operations on CNC and conventional lathes. The insert carries the ISO designation DCGT 11 T3 02-UM 5015 and features a 55-degree diamond shape with a neutral hand orientation. It measures 0.4499 inches in length, with a 0.375-inch (3/8 inch) inscribed circle and a 0.20 mm (0.0079 inch) corner radius. The UM chip breaker geometry and grade 5015 cermet substrate make this insert well suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes at higher cutting speeds. Screw clamping secures the insert in compatible toolholders. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary installers.
This insert is applied primarily to steel and cast iron workpieces, corresponding to ISO material groups P and K. It is intended for turning operations within the CoroTurn 107 system, which uses screw-on clamping. Typical use cases include finish turning of carbon steel shafts, cast iron housings, and similar components where tight tolerances and good surface finish are required. The full-radius geometry and UM chip breaker support consistent chip control at moderate-to-high feeds on small-to-medium diameter features. The insert supports a maximum depth of cut of 0.4499 inches (11.43 mm).
Designed for use with SANDVIK COROMANT CoroTurn 107 series screw-clamp toolholders that accept DCGT-style inserts with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle. Primary workpiece materials are steel (ISO P) and cast iron (ISO K).
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer's torque and clamping guidelines. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for debris or damage before seating a new insert. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specification for the insert geometry.
