The SANDVIK COROMANT 5726071 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CPMT style, designed for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This insert carries a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which provides wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted cuts. The insert has an 80-degree diamond shape (ISO shape code C) with a neutral hand orientation and is part of the CoroTurn 111 series. It measures 0.3493 inches in length with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 1/32-inch corner radius. Machining professionals and CNC operators install this insert in compatible CPMT-style toolholders for high-precision turning applications.
This insert is optimized for stainless steel workpieces (ISO material group M), making it well suited for industries where corrosion-resistant alloys are common, such as medical, food processing, and oil and gas fabrication. The MM chip breaker geometry is engineered to control chip formation in medium finishing to semi-finishing operations. The screw-clamping holding method and the P clearance code with M tolerance code ensure precise, repeatable seating in the toolholder pocket across multiple index cycles.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for CPMT-style toolholders in the CoroTurn 111 series that accept a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert with a screw-clamp holding method and P clearance, M tolerance specification.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the clamping screw — do not overtighten, as this can crack the carbide substrate. Inspect the toolholder pocket seating surface for chips or contamination before installing a fresh insert edge.
