The SANDVIK COROMANT 5725557 is a CNMG-style indexable turning insert designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Grade 1105 solid carbide with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating delivers wear resistance and thermal stability when cutting steel and stainless steel. The insert carries an 80-degree diamond shape, a neutral hand orientation, and a QM chip breaker geometry that promotes controlled chip evacuation across a wide range of depths of cut and feed rates. Four cutting edges per insert reduce per-edge tooling cost. With an inscribed circle of 0.75 inches and a corner radius of 0.0469 inches, this insert fits standard CNMG toolholders used by machinists and CNC technicians in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is rated primarily for steel (ISO P) and is also suited for stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium (ISO M and ISO S workpiece material codes). It belongs to the SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max P series, which targets medium to rough turning applications. Typical installations include shaft turning, facing, and contour work on horizontal and vertical CNC lathes. Designed to seat in standard CNMG 19 06 toolholders accepting a 0.75-inch inscribed circle, 0.25-inch thick diamond insert with a 0.312-inch hole diameter. ISO designation CNMG 19 06 12-QM 1105. Compatible with toolholders specifying insert size code 643 and clearance code N.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing inserts. Ensure the toolholder pocket and clamping pin are clean and free of chips before inserting; contamination under the insert seat causes premature edge failure. Torque the clamp screw according to the toolholder manufacturer specification - do not use an impact driver. Inspect the insert seating and clamp engagement before returning the machine to service.
