The SANDVIK COROMANT 5725272 is a CNMG-style indexable turning insert designed for external turning and profiling operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries grade 3210, a CVD-coated carbide substrate with a TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN multilayer coating engineered for wear resistance and thermal stability. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape, a neutral hand orientation, and a KM chip breaker geometry optimized for cast iron machining. With a 5/8-inch inscribed circle and a 1/32-inch corner radius, it delivers consistent edge geometry across all four cutting edges. Installation is performed by licensed machinists and CNC tooling specialists in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is intended for use in the SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max P turning system and is suited for medium to finishing passes on cast iron workpieces. The KM chip breaker geometry provides reliable chip control at moderate feed rates typical of cast iron applications. The 0.6032-inch insert length and 1/4-inch insert thickness conform to CNMG 542 dimensional standards. Four usable cutting edges maximize tool life per insert. It is applicable in both high-volume production turning and precision component finishing where surface integrity and predictable tool life are priorities.
Designed for use in the SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max P turning system. ISO code CNMG 16 06 08-KM 3210. Compatible with CNMG 542 toolholders that accept clamp and pin insert holding methods. Primary workpiece material is cast iron (ISO K).
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is in a safe index position before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure when clamping the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and locating pin for debris or wear before seating a new insert to maintain accurate edge positioning.
