The SANDVIK COROMANT 5724979 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNMG433-MM 1125 grade, designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a TiAlN and AlCr2O3 dual-layer PVD/CVD coating, offering strong wear resistance and thermal stability under demanding cut conditions. With an 80-degree diamond shape and a 3/64-inch corner radius, it delivers accurate profiling and moderate material removal. The 1125 carbide grade is suited for interrupted and continuous cuts across a range of workpiece materials. Machinists and CNC operators in metalworking and production machining environments install and index these inserts as part of standard tooling maintenance.
This insert is used in production and job-shop turning applications where consistent tool life and surface finish are required. The CNMG style seats in standard clamp-and-pin toolholders designed for negative-rake insert geometry. The MM chip-breaker geometry is intended for medium machining conditions, making this insert applicable in general-purpose turning of steel and similar ferrous materials. It is indexed or replaced during routine tooling changes on CNC turning centers and manual lathes equipped with compatible CNMG-style pockets.
Designed as an OEM-grade replacement turning insert for standard CNMG-style negative-rake toolholders and turning tool bodies that accept a 1/2-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch thick insert with clamp-and-pin retention. ISO code CNMG 12 04 12-MM 1125.
Installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a full stop and lockout/tagout procedures observed. Seat the insert fully in the pocket and verify clamp and pin engagement before resuming operation. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or wear before seating a new insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque guidelines for the clamping screw to avoid insert or pocket damage.
