The SANDVIK COROMANT 5724953 is a CCMT431-MM 2025 grade solid carbide turning insert designed for precision external turning operations on CNC lathes. The insert features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which provides wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and light interrupted cuts. With an 80-degree diamond shape, a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64 inch corner radius, this insert delivers consistent chip control through the MM chip breaker geometry. It is intended for machinists and tooling technicians working on production turning cells requiring reliable edge life and dimensional accuracy.
This insert is primarily recommended for turning stainless steel workpieces, corresponding to ISO material code M. The CoroTurn 107 series designation indicates suitability for screw-clamped toolholders configured for external turning, facing, and profiling operations in both light roughing and finishing passes. Its neutral hand configuration allows use on standard right-hand and certain left-hand setups depending on the toolholder selected. The MM chip breaker geometry supports medium-depth passes where chip evacuation and surface finish consistency are critical priorities in production environments.
Designed for use in CoroTurn 107 series screw-clamped toolholders accepting CCMT insert style with clearance code C, tolerance code M, and a 5.50 mm hole diameter. The ISO designation for this insert is CCMT 12 04 04-MM 2025.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and all stored energy released before changing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the insert or damage the pocket seating surface. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or debris before seating the new insert, and verify edge orientation matches the intended cutting direction before resuming operations.
