The SANDVIK COROMANT 5724882 is a CCGT-style turning insert from the CoroTurn 107 series, designed for precision external turning operations on stainless steel and other difficult-to-machine materials. This solid carbide insert features a TiAlN and TiN Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) coating applied in a dual-layer process, providing wear resistance and edge stability at elevated temperatures. The insert carries an 80-degree diamond shape with a neutral hand orientation, a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, and a 1/32 inch corner radius. It is installed and replaced by machinists and toolroom technicians working on CNC lathes and turning centers.
This insert is primarily suited for machining stainless steel (ISO material code M), where sharp cutting geometry and PVD coating performance are critical to surface finish and tool life. The UM chip breaker geometry is engineered for light to medium finishing passes on austenitic and similar grades. With a screw-type insert holding method and a clearance code C (7-degree relief angle), the 5724882 fits into CoroTurn 107 toolholders designed for CCGT inserts with matching tolerance and geometry codes. Typical applications include finish turning, profiling, and light interrupted cuts on stainless components in precision manufacturing environments.
Designed for use with CoroTurn 107 series toolholders accepting CCGT-style inserts with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, clearance code C, and tolerance code G. ISO designation CCGT 09 T3 08-UM 2035. Compatible toolholders must accommodate a 0.1732 inch (4.40 mm) mounting hole diameter and screw-type clamping. Minimum order quantity is 10 inserts; package quantity is 1.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians on powered-off, locked-out CNC turning equipment. Seat the insert fully into the pocket before tightening the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before each insert change to avoid premature edge failure. Handle carbide inserts carefully to avoid chipping the cutting edges.
