The SANDVIK COROMANT 5724690 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for hard material machining on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the CNGA insert style with an 80-degree diamond shape, this insert carries a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating applied via PVD process, providing a hard, wear-resistant surface layer suited for demanding cutting conditions. The insert features a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, a corner radius of 0.0313 inches (1/32 inch), and a neutral hand orientation. Grade 7015 is a Sandvik Coromant designation engineered for high-hardness workpiece applications, including hardened steels and similar hard materials. It belongs to the T-Max P series and is sold in a minimum order quantity of 5 pieces.
This insert is used in external and internal turning operations where the workpiece material is classified as hard (ISO material group H), such as hardened steels typically above 45 HRC. It is suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes in production environments. The CNGA geometry with chip breaker style A and zero-degree relief angle (clearance code N) is optimized for rigid setups on CNC turning equipment. Machinists and CNC operators in job shops, aerospace, and precision manufacturing facilities are the primary users of this insert style.
Designed for use in CNGA-style toolholders within the Sandvik Coromant T-Max P turning system. Compatible with toolholder setups accepting a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch thick CNGA insert with a 0.2030-inch hole diameter and clamp or pin holding method.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. The machine spindle must be stopped and all motion arrested before indexing or replacing the insert. Secure the insert using the appropriate clamp and pin hardware specified for the CNGA toolholder; do not overtighten fasteners beyond toolholder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the insert seat and shim for damage before seating a new insert to ensure proper edge geometry and dimensional accuracy.
