The SANDVIK COROMANT 5724656 is a CNMG-style indexable turning insert designed for high-performance external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert carries a TiAlN and AlCr2O3 PVD coating paired with the 1115 carbide grade, optimized for cutting stainless steel and superalloys including titanium. It features a neutral hand orientation, an 80-degree diamond insert shape, and a QM chip breaker geometry engineered for medium machining conditions with moderate feed rates and reliable chip control. Four cutting edges per insert are available, extending tool life between index intervals. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments are the primary installers.
This insert is suited for turning stainless steel workpieces (ISO material code M) and secondary materials including superalloys and titanium (ISO material code S). Typical applications include external turning, facing, and profiling passes on CNC turning centers where consistent surface finish and chip evacuation are critical. The QM chip breaker geometry addresses the work-hardening tendencies common in stainless and nickel-based alloys. This insert is installed and indexed by qualified machinists or CNC toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the manufacturer-specified torque wrench and clamp hardware for the toolholder to ensure proper seating of the clamp and pin holding system. Inspect the toolholder pocket and pin for wear or debris before seating a fresh insert edge.
