The SANDVIK COROMANT 5724579 is a ceramic turning insert designed for precision metal cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the CNGA insert style with an 80-degree diamond shape, this insert carries the 6050 manufacturer grade and features a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating for improved surface hardness and wear resistance. The insert has a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle, a 3/64-inch corner radius, and an insert length of 0.4605 inches, making it suitable for demanding finishing and semi-finishing applications. It is installed and managed by machining professionals, toolroom technicians, and CNC operators working in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is used in external and internal turning operations where tight tolerances and consistent surface finish are required. The CNGA geometry with a neutral 0-degree relief angle (Clearance Code N) and G tolerance class suits precision boring, profiling, and finish turning of hardened or abrasive materials. The TiN-coated ceramic substrate performs well at elevated cutting speeds where conventional carbide may not be optimal. It is a single-piece insert sold in minimum order quantities of 10 units.
Designed for use in CNGA-style turning toolholders that accept inserts with a 1/2-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch insert thickness, and a 0.2030-inch hole diameter. Compatible with clamp and pin clamping systems. Verify toolholder specifications against ISO Code CNGA 12 04 12S01525 6050 when cross-referencing.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine fully powered down and spindle locked before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the clamp or pin to the correct seating torque per that toolholder's documentation. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before seating the new insert. Never force an insert into a pocket that shows visible damage or wear.
