The SANDVIK COROMANT 5724400 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision external turning operations on steel and stainless steel workpieces. Manufactured to ISO code CCET 06 02 02-UM 1125, this insert features an 80-degree diamond shape (Shape Code C) with a 7-degree relief angle and a 0.20 mm (0.0079 inch) corner radius. The 1125 grade substrate is coated with TiAlN and AlCr2O3 via a PVD coating process, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability at moderate to high cutting speeds. The UM chip breaker geometry supports finishing and semi-finishing passes where controlled chip evacuation is critical. It is installed by licensed machinists and CNC operators in production turning environments.
This insert is suited for turning applications on steel (ISO material group P) and stainless steel (ISO material group M) in both production shop and job-shop settings. The CoroTurn 107 series is engineered for external turning, profiling, and light-duty copying operations. The screw-holding method provides secure clamping with consistent indexing, and the neutral hand orientation supports use in standard right-hand toolholders compatible with the CCET insert style. Two cutting edges per insert support cost-effective tooling management on high-volume turning programs.
Designed for use in CoroTurn 107 series toolholders that accept CCET-style inserts with a 1/4 inch (6.35 mm) inscribed circle and screw clamping. Compatible with toolholders specifying Clearance Code C and Tolerance Code E. Intended for primary use on steel (ISO P) and secondary use on stainless steel (ISO M) workpieces.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician with the machine at a full stop and all motion axes locked. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the clamping screw — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and may fracture under excessive clamp force. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before indexing to a fresh cutting edge. Follow the cutting parameter recommendations published in the SANDVIK COROMANT CoroTurn 107 catalog for the specific workpiece material grade and operation type.
