The SANDVIK COROMANT 5724392 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CoroTurn 107 series, designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes. It carries an 80-degree diamond shape (CCET style) with a 7-degree relief angle and a 0.2 mm corner radius. The insert is PVD-coated with TiAlN and AlCr2O3 for extended tool life in demanding cuts. The UM chip breaker geometry is engineered to manage chip flow efficiently at moderate cutting depths. Two cutting edges per insert deliver reliable performance for production turning applications handled by CNC machinists and tooling specialists.
This insert is primarily targeted at stainless steel machining, with secondary suitability for superalloys and titanium. The CoroTurn 107 series is a screw-clamped toolholder system commonly used in both roughing and finishing passes on precision turned components. The neutral hand orientation makes it adaptable across a range of toolholder setups. A maximum depth of cut of 6.25 mm suits finishing to light semi-finishing operations on difficult-to-machine materials where edge integrity and coating durability are critical factors.
Designed for use in CoroTurn 107 series screw-clamped toolholders accepting CCET-style inserts with a 1/4-inch inscribed circle. ISO code CCET060202UM1115 identifies compatible toolholder pockets. Primary workpiece material is stainless steel (ISO material code M); secondary materials include superalloys and titanium (ISO material code S).
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or tooling technician with the machine in a fully stopped and locked-out state. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key per the toolholder manufacturer specification to seat the clamping screw — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and will crack under excessive clamping force. Verify insert seating and pocket cleanliness before resuming cutting operations. Inspect the cutting edge condition at each index point; do not attempt to regrind PVD-coated carbide inserts.
