The SANDVIK COROMANT 5724227 is a CNMG-style indexable turning insert designed for general-purpose turning operations on CNC lathes and machining centers. Built from solid carbide and coated via CVD with a TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN multilayer system, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability across a range of cutting speeds. It carries a manufacturer grade of 3210 and belongs to the T-Max P series. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape, a neutral hand orientation, and a KR chip breaker geometry. With four cutting edges per insert, it offers solid value in high-volume turning programs. Machinists and CNC operators handling cast iron workpieces are the primary users.
This insert is sized at a 1/2-inch inscribed circle with an insert length of 0.4762 inches and a thickness of 3/16 inches. The corner radius is 1/32 inch (0.0313 inches), suited for medium finishing to semi-roughing passes. The KR chip breaker geometry is optimized for primary workpiece material group K, which covers cast iron and similar materials. The ISO code for this insert is CNMG 12 04 08-KR 3210. It is held in the toolholder by clamp and pin methods, standard for CNMG-style pockets. Sold individually, with a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
Designed for use in CNMG-style toolholders accepting a 432 insert size with clamp and pin holding. Compatible with toolholder pockets conforming to ISO code CNMG 12 04 08. Intended for cast iron turning applications within the T-Max P series tooling system.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the insert — do not overtighten by hand. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surface for debris or damage before seating a new insert.
