The SANDVIK COROMANT 5724189 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CCMT style, designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the manufacturer grade 1125 with a PVD-applied TiAlN and AlCr2O3 dual-layer coating that supports cutting performance in steel and stainless steel applications. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape, a UM chip breaker geometry, and a neutral hand orientation. With an inscribed circle of 0.25 inches and a corner radius of 0.0313 inches, it is suited for medium to light finishing passes. This insert belongs to the CoroTurn 107 series and is installed by machining professionals, toolroom technicians, and CNC operators.
This insert is intended for turning steel and stainless steel workpieces in production and job-shop environments. The UM chip breaker geometry is optimized for light to medium finishing cuts where controlled chip formation and surface finish consistency are priorities. The screw-clamping hold method is compatible with CoroTurn 107 toolholders that accept CCMT-style inserts with a clearance code C and tolerance code M. It is applicable in both roughing setups with appropriate depth-of-cut adjustments and in finish-turning passes on ferrous materials coded P and M under ISO material classification.
Designed for use in CoroTurn 107 series toolholders that accept CCMT-style inserts with a clearance code C, tolerance code M, and screw clamping. ISO code for this insert is CCMT 06 02 08-UM 1125. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO code P); secondary workpiece material is stainless steel (ISO code M).
Installation is performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to tighten the clamping screw — do not over-torque or under-torque the fastener. Inspect the insert pocket and locating surfaces for chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure full contact and accurate indexing.
