The SANDVIK COROMANT 5724187 is a CCMT-style indexable turning insert from the CoroTurn 107 series, designed for external turning and light internal operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the ISO designation CCMT 06 02 08-UM 1115 and features an 80-degree diamond insert shape with a neutral hand orientation. The substrate is solid carbide finished with a PVD-applied TiAlN and AlCr2O3 multilayer coating, delivering high heat resistance and edge stability. With a 1/4-inch inscribed circle, a 1/32-inch corner radius, and the UM chip breaker geometry, this insert is engineered specifically for finishing and semi-finishing passes on difficult-to-machine materials.
This insert is optimized for primary use on stainless steel (ISO material code M) and secondary use on superalloys and titanium (ISO material code S). The UM chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation at the low-to-moderate feed rates typical of finishing operations in aerospace, medical, and process-industry components. It is screw-held in standard CCMT toolholders and is suited to both short-run job shops and production turning environments where dimensional accuracy and surface finish on stainless or superalloy workpieces are critical. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary installers.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for standard CCMT 06 02 08-style screw-clamped toolholders compatible with the CoroTurn 107 series. Primary workpiece material compatibility is stainless steel; secondary compatibility includes superalloys and titanium.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Before indexing or replacing the insert, confirm the machine is in an E-stop state and the spindle is fully locked. Use the manufacturer-specified torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw — do not use power tools to torque the screw. Verify seating surface and pocket are free of chips or debris before securing the insert to maintain accurate tool offset repeatability.
