Product Description

The SANDVIK COROMANT 5724102 is a CCGT-style solid carbide turning insert from the CoroTurn 107 series, designed for precision external and internal turning operations on steel and stainless steel workpieces. This insert features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, which provides thermal resistance and extended tool life under moderate to high cutting speeds. The 80-degree diamond insert shape (C) delivers a strong cutting edge geometry suited for finish and semi-finish turning passes. With a 0.20 mm corner radius and neutral hand orientation, it fits a wide range of screw-clamp toolholders used in CNC turning centers and manual lathes.

This insert is intended for finish turning of steel (ISO P) and stainless steel (ISO M) components in both production shop and job shop environments. The UM chip breaker geometry is optimized for light to medium depths of cut, making it well suited for finishing passes where tight tolerances and good surface finish are required. Machinists and CNC programmers working with low-alloy steels, carbon steels, and austenitic stainless grades will find this insert appropriate for high-precision contouring and facing operations. The screw-held mounting method provides repeatable indexing when changing cutting edges.

Key Features

  • TiAlN coating via PVD process for improved wear resistance and thermal stability
  • 80-degree diamond insert shape (CCGT) with 7-degree relief angle for reduced cutting forces
  • UM chip breaker geometry optimized for light to medium finish turning cuts
  • Neutral hand orientation compatible with standard CCGT screw-clamp toolholders
  • 2 cutting edges per insert for cost-effective use
  • ISO code CCGT 09 T3 02-UM 1105 for cross-reference with toolholder specifications

Compatibility

Designed for use with screw-clamp toolholders accepting CCGT 32.50 inserts with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle and 5/32 inch insert thickness. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO P code); secondary workpiece material is stainless steel (ISO M code). Part of the Sandvik Coromant CoroTurn 107 series insert system.

Installation Notes

Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is stopped and all axes are at a safe position before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the clamping screw — do not overtighten. Confirm insert seating is flush in the pocket before resuming cutting operations.
