The SANDVIK COROMANT 5723499 is a CCMT432-KM 3210 grade turning insert designed for precision external turning operations. It features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN over a solid carbide substrate, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The 80-degree diamond insert shape provides two cutting edges per insert and suits a range of profiling and straight turning applications. With a 1/2-inch inscribed circle and a 3/16-inch insert thickness, this insert is sized for medium material removal in production environments. It is typically installed by machinists and CNC turning center operators working in job shops, production facilities, and maintenance machining.
This insert is engineered for turning cast iron and similar K-group workpiece materials, making it well suited for automotive, pump, and general industrial component machining. The KM chip breaker geometry is optimized for controlled chip formation in these materials. The neutral hand orientation allows use on standard CCMT-style toolholders in both conventional and CNC lathes. The ISO designation CCMT 12 04 08-KM 3210 provides direct cross-reference for toolholder and insert pocket compatibility. The screw-clamping insert holding method ensures positive seating and repeatable edge positioning during production runs.
Designed for use in CCMT-style screw-clamp toolholders compatible with the CoroTurn 107 series. ISO code CCMT 12 04 08-KM 3210 should be used to confirm toolholder and insert pocket fitment. Neutral hand orientation is compatible with standard CCMT pocket configurations.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC setup technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is stopped and the turret is in a safe indexed position before changing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified clamping procedure when seating the insert screw. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before installing a new insert to ensure proper seating and edge repeatability.
