The SANDVIK COROMANT 5723308 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision external turning operations. It carries the ISO designation CCMT 09 T3 04-MF 2015 and belongs to the CoroTurn 107 series. The insert features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which provides wear resistance and thermal stability during cutting. The 80-degree diamond shape (C) with a 7-degree relief angle and MF chip breaker geometry makes this insert well suited for finishing and medium finishing passes. It is installed by licensed machinists and CNC operators in production turning environments.
This insert is primarily intended for machining stainless steel, corresponding to ISO workpiece material code M. The MF chip breaker geometry is optimized for low cutting forces and controlled chip formation on difficult-to-machine austenitic and ferritic stainless grades. It is a neutral-hand insert secured by screw clamping, making it compatible with standard CoroTurn 107 toolholders that accept CCMT-style inserts. Typical applications include shaft turning, shoulder facing, and contour turning on CNC lathes in both job shop and production environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for CoroTurn 107 series toolholders accepting CCMT 09 T3 04 geometry inserts. ISO code CCMT 09 T3 04-MF 2015 identifies direct cross-reference and toolholder compatibility within that system.
Insert replacement is performed by machinists following standard CNC lathe lockout procedures - spindle must be fully stopped and the machine placed in an e-stop state before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key driver to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure when seating the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for debris or wear before seating a new insert. Handle carbide inserts with care to avoid chipping cutting edges prior to use.
