The RUUD RCFY6021SEAAMC is a cased A-coil evaporator designed for use with R454B refrigerant in split-system residential and light commercial cooling applications. Rated at 5 nominal tons (60,000 BTU/h), this coil ships fully cased and ready for field installation. The integrated electronic expansion valve (EEV) enables precise refrigerant metering, supporting high-efficiency system performance when matched with a compatible condensing unit. At 21 inches wide, it fits standard air handler and furnace cabinets where that footprint is specified. Licensed HVAC technicians perform this installation as part of a split-system retrofit or new-equipment setup.
This coil is suited for multi-position installations, meaning it can be configured for upflow, downflow, or horizontal airflow depending on job site requirements. The cased design protects the coil assembly during shipping and simplifies installation by eliminating the need for field fabrication of a coil enclosure. The R454B refrigerant compatibility makes this coil appropriate for new installations using low-GWP refrigerant systems as the industry transitions away from R-410A. Typical applications include residential forced-air cooling systems and light commercial split systems requiring a 5-ton evaporator stage.
Designed as an OEM-style cased evaporator coil for multi-position split-system applications requiring a 5-ton R454B-compatible coil with a 21-inch cabinet width.
Installation must be performed by a licensed HVAC technician holding the appropriate EPA Section 608 refrigerant certification, as R454B is a regulated refrigerant. Disconnect and lock out all electrical power to the air handler or furnace before opening the cabinet and connecting the coil. Verify that the condensing unit and any associated controls are rated and approved for use with R454B refrigerant before completing the refrigerant circuit. Follow the equipment manufacturer instructions and all applicable local mechanical codes for drain pan, condensate line, and refrigerant piping requirements.
