The RUUD R802V0503A14DZSCAP is a downflow natural gas furnace rated at 80 percent AFUE and 50,000 BTU/h output. It uses a two-stage heating operation and an ECM variable-speed blower motor to deliver consistent airflow across a range of system demands. Two-stage control keeps the furnace running primarily at low capacity — roughly 60 to 65 percent — and steps up to full capacity only when the load requires it. This combination of modulated firing and variable-speed airflow reduces short cycling, improves humidity control, and lowers sound levels during normal operation. Licensed HVAC technicians install this unit as part of a ducted forced-air system.
This furnace is configured for downflow applications, making it suitable for installations where supply air discharges downward — common in crawl-space or raised-floor duct systems. The unit is EcoNet enabled, allowing integration with the Ruud EcoNet Smart Thermostat and the Ruud Contractor EcoNet App. Built-in Bluetooth technology supports commissioning without DIP switch configuration. The system includes PlusOne Diagnostics and a Direct Spark Ignition system. Nominal cooling tonnage is rated at 3 tons, indicating compatibility with matched cooling equipment in a split system.
Designed as a downflow OEM replacement or new-install furnace for residential ducted forced-air systems requiring an 80 percent AFUE, two-stage, variable-speed natural gas unit with a 14-inch cabinet width. Compatible with EcoNet Smart Thermostats and matched Ruud cooling equipment rated at 3 nominal tons.
Installation must be performed by a licensed HVAC contractor in accordance with local mechanical codes and the manufacturer's installation instructions. Shut off gas supply and disconnect electrical power before servicing or replacing any components. Downflow furnaces require a rated combustible-floor base or non-combustible pad when installed over a combustible surface. Flue venting must comply with applicable fuel-gas code requirements for an 80 percent non-condensing appliance.
