The RUUD PROG30-32N-RH63-MH is a 30-gallon tall residential gas water heater designed for natural gas or liquid propane operation. It features a field-convertible burner assembly and controls, allowing a single unit to serve either fuel type without ordering separate components. Input ratings are 32,000 BTU/h on natural gas and 36,000 BTU/h on liquid propane, with a recovery rate of 34.3 gallons per hour at a 90 degrees F rise. Piezo ignition eliminates the need for a standing pilot or external igniter. The unit vents atmospherically and is intended for installation by licensed plumbing or HVAC professionals in residential applications.
This water heater is built for standard residential installations where a 30-gallon tall-profile tank fits the space envelope. The tank measures 16.5 inches in diameter by 56.875 inches in height, with an overall height including the draft hood of 59.625 inches. The atmospheric vent accepts a 3-inch or 4-inch draft hood outlet, making it compatible with common B-vent configurations. Connections include a 3/4-inch NPT inlet and outlet and a 1/2-inch gas connection. The low NOx burner design meets applicable environmental standards. A flammable vapor ignition resistance (FVIR) system disables the heater if flammable vapor accumulation is detected, a key safety requirement in residential settings.
Designed as an OEM-style residential gas water heater replacement or new installation unit for tall 30-gallon atmospheric-vent applications using natural gas or liquid propane supply.
Installation must be performed by a licensed plumber or qualified gas technician in accordance with local codes, the International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC), and the manufacturer instructions supplied with the unit. Shut off the gas supply and cold water inlet before disconnecting any existing water heater. B-vent flue connections must be properly sized and terminated per the applicable venting code — confirm whether a 3-inch or 4-inch vent collar is required for your installation. The T and P relief valve discharge line must be piped to a safe drain location per code before placing the unit in service.
