The RUUD 47-104184-01 is a water sensor designed for use in high-efficiency condensing gas furnaces. This component monitors for the presence of water or condensate within the furnace assembly, triggering a safety shutoff when moisture is detected at levels that could indicate a drain blockage or condensate backup. It is a direct OEM replacement part installed by licensed HVAC technicians during preventive maintenance or fault diagnosis. The sensor measures 5.85 inches in length, 4.0 inches in width, and 0.4 inches in height, making it a compact component suited for tight furnace cabinet installations.
This water sensor is used in residential high-efficiency gas furnaces from the RUUD R92PA series. These are 92-plus AFUE two-stage condensing furnaces that produce acidic condensate as a byproduct of combustion. The sensor is positioned within the drain or collection box area to detect condensate overflow or drain system failures before water can reach heat exchanger or control board components. Proper sensor function is critical to preventing equipment damage and nuisance lockouts in the field.
Compatible with the following RUUD gas furnace models: R92PA0401317MSA, R92PA0601317MSA, R92PA0701317MSA, R92PA0851521MSA, R92PA1001521MSA, and R92PA1151524MSA.
Installation should be performed by a qualified HVAC technician. Before servicing, shut off power to the furnace at the disconnect switch or breaker and allow the unit to cool. Inspect the condensate drain system for blockages or buildup before installing the replacement sensor, as an unresolved drain issue will trigger the new sensor immediately after startup. Refer to the furnace service manual for sensor wiring and mounting location specific to the R92PA series.
